If I Have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) as Part of My DUI Sentence, is it still Possible to Get in Trouble?
The answer is, absolutely yes! If part of your probation is to use an IID you have to realize that it is not just for YOUR primary vehicle, but for ANY vehicle you may operate! In other words, if your friend wants you to drive to the market down the street in his car, because it is parked behind yours, and you drive to the market down the street, you have violated your probation. ANY vehicle you operate during your probation MUST have an IID. If you tamper with the device in any way this could seriously jeopardize your probation. Also, if you attempt to circumvent the device or have another individual blow into it, those are also very serious infractions. Also, most people think that once you blow into an IID and start the car, that's the end of the bother for the ride. Not so. IIDs require you to blow at random intervals. Having a prohibited level of alcohol in your blood at any one of those moments is also a serious violation. If you have been required to use an IID, make certain you respect it and follow all requirements of your probation. Remember, never operate a vehicle if you are under the influence of any substance.
